Austria-based pipe producer Benteler Steel/Tube has announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with German steelmaker Thyssenkrupp’s subsidiary Thyssenkrupp Hohenlimburg to supply carbon-reduced slab from its electric arc furnace-based Lingen steel plant.
The agreement provides for a continuous increase in the volume of the material produced with green electricity until 2027.
At the Lingen steel plant, steel scrap is recycled with the help of an electric arc furnace.
Benteler Steel/Tube aims to become carbon neutral by 2045.
In addition, in March Benteler Automotive and Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe signed a memorandum of understanding for the supply of carbon-reduced bluemint® Steel to be used in the production of vehicle components, as SteelOrbis previously reported.
