China holds 68 percent of new shipbuilding orders in global market in May

In May this year, China attracted 68 percent of new shipbuilding orders in the global market, while South Korea held a 25 percent share, according to the data issued by Clarksons, the world’s leading provider of integrated shipping services.

In the given month, 2.06 million CGT (compensated gross tonnage) of new shipbuilding orders were transacted in the global market, down 36 percent year on year. In particular, 1.41 million CGT and 0.51 million CGT of new shipbuilding orders were respectively claimed by Chinese and South Korean shipbuilding enterprises.
