The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) plans to commission its new cold rolling complex with a new two million mt per year capacity cold rolling mill 2000 in 2011, in response to increased demand for high quality cold rolled and galvanized steel, primarily for the production of external and internal components of automobiles, as well as for producers of household appliances and for the construction sector.
MMK's new cold rolling shop No. 11 will include a continuous pickling line of turbulent pickling in hydrochloric acid combined with a cold rolling mill with a capacity of 2.1 million mt per year, a hot galvanizing unit with a capacity of 450,000 mt per year, and a combined continuous annealing/hot dip galvanizing unit with a capacity of 650,000 mt per year.
The commissioning of the cold rolling mill 2000 will allow MMK to immediately offer domestic carmakers a full range of cold rolled sheet of high strength steels, used in the production of new Russian car models. The product range which can be produced at MMK's new cold rolling shop will also satisfy most of the needs of foreign automakers operating in Russia, allowing them to reduce their expenses.
