India’s largest stainless steel producer Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) will set up two rooftop solar plants entailing investment of around $14 million at its mills at Jajpur in Odisha and Hisar in Haryana, a company statement said on Tuesday, March 7.
The company said that the two solar plants each with 21 MW peak capacity would be completed by March 2024 and would be a step towards JSL achieving net zero emissions.
It claimed that the two solar power plants will have a carbon abatement potential of 564,450 mt over a lifespan of 25 years and being on rooftops will save existing land which could be used for expansion of the mill in the future.
JSL has already commissioned one solar power plant at its Hisar mill capable of generating 110 million units of electricity, reducing carbon emissions by 78,597 mt, the company statement said.
