South Korean steelmaker Pohang Iron and Steel Co. (POSCO) has announced that it has developed a high-strength stainless steel for called 430DP to be used in home appliances.
The new product, with thickness reduced by 20 percent, still has 50 percent higher strength than existing stainless steel for home appliances.
According to the statement, the company increased the heat treatment temperature in order to overcome the problem of limitation in increasing strength and plans to standardize these operating conditions at its plant and start full-scale production.
Meanwhile, POSCO has signed a three-year agreement with South Korea-based Samsung Electronics, as SteelOrbis previously reported. The new product will be used in refrigerator doors in cooperation with Samsung Electronics.
