AHMSA to benefit from US-China trade disputes

Mexican integrated steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) would reportedly benefit from the ongoing trade dispute between the US and China, as both countries have toughened measures against each other since Donald Trump implemented import tariffs on steel. Other products, including US agricultural exports, have been affected in the aftermath.

Mexican newspaper El Financiero said AHMSA and steelmaking group Industrias CH would benefit from the conflict, as the US would require more steel from Mexico.

“A trade war would create further needs for the (two) countries. The US will require more manufacturing products from Mexico,” said Manuel Diaz, president Ei Consultores Group.

The proximity between Mexico and the US would also contribute to increased steel exports, the media report said.
