Germany-based plantmaker SMS Group has announced that it has received the final acceptance certificate from Spanish steelmaker ArcelorMittal Asturias for the revamp of the 150 ton/hour walking beam furnace that feeds its wire rod mill. The revamp has been carried out completely by SMS Meer SpA, Italy, a subsidiary of SMS Group, in line with the latest European safety regulations.

With the modernization, completed within a single month of mill stoppage, the company will save almost 80 percent on natural gas consumption and reduce operative costs.
