ArcelorMittal confirms idling of steel facilities in Luxembourg

Luxembourg-based global steel giant ArcelorMittal has announced it will temporary idle its electric arc furnace and two rolling mills at its long steel production site in Rodange and Schifflange, Luxembourg, a measure that will affect 450 employees.

The decision was made in the light of weak demand in the northern European construction sector, the steelmaker said.

Meanwhile ArcelorMittal is in talks with trade unions over a temporary shutdown of its Sestao steel plant in Spain, the steelmaker announced on Wednesday, September 29.

In addition to the abovementioned Luxembourg facilities, since early September ArcelorMittal has also announced it will idle two blast furnaces, one in Germany and one in France, citing weaker steel demand in Europe.
