ArcelorMittal Galati, Romania-based subsidiary of the world's largest integrated metals and mining company ArcelorMittal, has invested €8 million in the installation of a new automatic thickness control system at its heavy plate rolling mill No.2.
Accordingly, the automated system will allow ArcelorMittal Galati to achieve a thickness quality of plate two times higher than the current EU norms, and also to improve its production technology by reducing raw material consumption. The system is currently undergoing the final testing stage.
ArcelorMittal Galati, with the 2.4 million mt annual capacity of its plate rolling mill No. 2, is set to become the unit with the biggest plate production capacity in the ArcelorMittal Group, followed by US-based Burns Harbor and Spain-based Gijón.
In addition, this year ArcelorMittal Galati has also finalized the installation of a new dedusting system at its steel plant No. 1, which allows it to reduce the dust emissions by nearly 95 percent.
