Steelmaker ArcelorMittal saw both revenues and EBITDA at its Brazil segment decline in Q4, according to the company’s latest quarterly results.
According to the steelmaker, steel sales in Q4 declined to $2.09 billion, from 2.54 billion in the same quarter of the year prior, a 17.7 percent year-on-year decline.
ArcelorMittal’s EBITDA in the Brazil segment diminished even more. The indicator fell by 66.8 percent, year-on-year, to $181 million in Q4 due to lower average steel selling prices, which declined 28.7 percent in Q4, year-on-year, as well as by lower steel shipments.
The company’s operational loss in Q4 was $134 million, as opposed to the $447 million operational profit seen in Q4 2014.
Brazil segment crude steel output rose 3.3 percent in Q4, year-on-year, to 2.85 million mt. By the other hand, steel shipment volumes diminished 0.7 percent in Q4, year-on-year, to 2.87 million mt.
ArcelorMittal’s average selling price in Q4 declined to $565/mt from $792/mt in the same quarter of the year prior, it said.
The Brazil segment includes Arcelor’s flat operations in Brazil, as well as long and tubular operations in Brazil and its neighboring countries, including Argentina, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.
