ArcelorMittal Temirtau, the Kazakhstan-based subsidiary of steel giant ArcelorMittal, has announced that on January 10 it commenced earthwork for the construction of its new six-strand continuous square billet caster for its long steel producing facility.
ArcelorMittal Temirtau said that it expects to finish the construction of the new continuous billet caster within a year, and by the end of 2011 to produce the first batch of products.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, the new six-strand continuous billet caster will allow ArcelorMittal Temirtau to increase its production capacity from four to five million mt of steel per year, to satisfy the needs in billet of its long product rolling shop, and will in the future enable it to expand its product range by producing quality long steel products such as rebar, angles, channels and T-sections.
The project for the construction of a new continuous billet caster, estimated at a cost of $37.1 million, was approved by ArcelorMittal on March 30, 2010. On August 5, 2010 ArcelorMittal Temirtau signed a contract with Turkish plantmaker CVS for the supply and installation of the new continuous billet caster
