Luxembourg-headquartered global steelmaker ArcelorMittal has announced that it has signed an agreement with German precision steel pipe producer Wiederholt for the supply of carbon-reduced steel under the XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel brand. Wiederholt will use carbon-reduced steel in its precision tube production.

As part of the partnership, Wiederholt intends to source hot rolled steel from ArcelorMittal with carbon savings of up to 65 percent compared to traditional production methods. The production of XCarb® steel uses at least 75 percent recycled scrap, which is melted in an electric arc furnace using renewable energy.

“The decision to use reduced CO2 steel from ArcelorMittal underlines our commitment to sustainability. We see great potential for green steel in the coming years and are preparing to be able to offer these products to our customers as well,” Uwe Seiger, purchasing manager at Wiederholt, said.
