In the Italian scrap market, there have only been small price reductions from peak levels in early April, while there is a good balance between supply and demand despite several days of production lost due to holidays, according to Assofermet, the Italian association of traders of iron, steel, non-ferrous metals, ferrous scrap, hardware and similar goods.
Scrap collection is still at reduced levels and so wholesalers' stocks remain very low.
In the European scrap market, quotations in dollars are still attractive and there is less possibility of price decreases, while demand is good.
Meanwhile, about 43,500 mt of pig iron and 8,800 mt of steel scrap were imported via Port Marghera, Venice in March this year.
