The government of Queensland in Australia has announced that it will invest A$26 billion in renewable energy, storage and transmission projects across the state over the next four years.
Accordingly, within the scope of its program, the state government will allocate A$16.5 billion towards renewable energy and storage projects, A$8.5 billion to build a “super grid”, including renewable energy zones, A$500 million in distribution network storage, and A$192 million to establish the transmission and training hubs in Townsville and Gladstone. Also, A$8.69 billion will be spent in the 2024-25 financial year alone. These spendings will help the Queensland state to cut its carbon emissions by 75 percent by 2035 and to increase its renewable energy usage to 80 percent by the same year.
In the meantime, the state government plans to end its dependence on its existing state-owned coal-powered power plants and convert them into clean energy hubs by 2035.
