UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies has announced that Chinese stainless steel producer Beihai Chengde Ferronickel & Stainless Steel Co. has started production at its new five-stand continuous stainless steel tandem cold rolling mill supplied by Primetals Technologies.

The rolling mill has a capacity of 600,000 mt of cold strip per year. The company intends to use the new cold rolling mill to start producing wide strip. The continuous rolling mill is able to achieve exit thicknesses of 0.3-3.0 millimeters from entry thicknesses of 1.0-5.0 millimeters. The width of the strip varies between 800 millimeters and 1,300 millimeters. The rolling speed is 400 meters per minute. The rolling stands are designed for a flying roll change, so production will not have to be interrupted to change the work rolls. This increases productivity and reduces output losses.
