Australian miner BHP Billiton has announced its production results for the quarter ended on September 30.
The company’s iron ore production in the given period decreased by 3.2 percent quarter on quarter and was down by 2.9 percent year on year to 63.2 million mt, reflecting decreased production at Western Australia Iron Ore.
BHP Billiton said it expects its iron ore production to be in the range of 254-264.5 million mt for the 2023-24 financial year.
In the September quarter, BHP Billiton’s metallurgical coal production was down by 34 percent quarter on quarter and decreased by 15.9 percent year on year to 5.6 million mt. The decreases in production were due to planned wash plant maintenance at Goonyella. Production is still expected to be between 28 million mt and 31 million mt in the 2023-24 financial year.
The company stated that it is building inventory at the mines at Western Australia Iron Ore while it completes planned maintenance.
