BHP Billiton to merge stainless materials and aluminum units

Wednesday, 09 May 2012 14:20:46 (GMT+3)   |
Australia-based miner BHP Billiton has announced that it will merge its stainless steel materials and aluminum customer sector groups into one unit to be called Aluminum and Nickel.

The new unit to be headquartered in Perth, Australia will include all the current nickel and aluminum assets in BHP Billiton's portfolio, such as Nickel West and Worsley, Cerro Matoso, Mozal, and Hillside and Bayside located in Australia, Colombia, Mozambique and South Africa respectively.

According to BHP's statement, individually, aluminum and nickel are small divisions relative to the other businesses of BHP Billiton. The combination of these two into one single unit will provide appropriate scale within the BHP Billiton portfolio. It will also contribute to simplifying the functional structure of the business.
