Bolivia’s El Mutun steel complex received from the oil state company YPFB confirmation that the plant will receive the natural gas required for its operation.
According to YPFB contract manager Oscar Caros Dulon, the supply is guaranteed for both the electric energy production and the industrial activities. He said that YPFB is already evaluating with El Mutun the timing and volumes of the supply.
Jorge Alverado Rivas, CEO of El Mutun, said that gas system and the energy generation are in advanced stage of construction, now estimated at 90 percent for the energy plant and 70 percent for the gas pipeline, which will have 8 km in length, linking the steel complex to the pipeline currently used by YPFB to export gas from Bolivia to Brazil.
El Mutun has recently concluded the assemblage of the Energiron ZR reactor, which constitutes the core of the direct reduction plant, produced by Mexico’s Tenova HYL.
