Brazil and Germany signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to exchange experiences and scientific knowledge related to the areas of geoscience, including the evaluation of mining resources, geochemistry and geophysics applied to mining, as well as for the development of new mining processing technologies and marine geology. Brazil, through Vale, is a top producer of iron ore.
The partnership will connect Brazil’s geological service (CPRM) with Germany’s mining resources agency (DERA), which is part of the country’s federal institute of geosciences and natural resources (BGR).
“In global terms, Brazil is one of the most important actors in the natural resources sector. Within this context, we’ll be partners in new bilateral researches in the field of geosciences, as well as in the creation and transfer of technological knowledge,” said Rainer Munzel, minister of economy and global affairs at Germany’s embassy in Brazil.
Eduardo Ledsham, president at CPRM, said the deal will help Brazil “seek new alternatives to identify new processes to recover important metals.”
