The Brazilian environment military police in the state of Minas Gerais has fined and then seized irregular works performed by local pellets producer Samarco at a site near the Mariana tragedy.

Samarco has performed non-authorized works in a lake near the S3 dyke in order to prevent iron ore waste from the damaged Fundao dam to pollute local rivers.

Samarco was fined BRL 33,230 and then at BRL 1,495 for the irregular works. The company didn’t have the proper licenses to work at the site, according to media reports.

Samarco confirmed the fines and said it’s analyzing the documents.
