Brazilian court: Samarco’s concession licenses still suspended

Thursday, 18 August 2016 23:07:13 (GMT+3)   |   Sao Paulo

Brazilian miner and iron ore producer Vale said on Thursday a federal court dismissed their appeal of an injunction filed by Brazil’s government and the states of Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo.

In addition to dismissing Vale’s appeal, the court also ruled that Samarco’s iron ore concession licenses should continue to be suspended. In a statement, Vale said the court decision doesn’t affect the company’s production and commercialization activities.

Vale also said that a deal with Brazilian authorities to cleanup the affected areas is still valid.
