Brazilian sales of flats by local distributors in September rose 1.7 percent, year-on-year, but declined 0.7 percent in the month-on-month period, to 251,300 mt, the nation’s steel distributors association, Inda, said on Tuesday.
Purchases of flat steel by local distributors in September totaled 263,200 mt, 14.7 percent up, year-on-year, but 0.5 percent down when compared to August’s figures.
Distributor inventory in September improved 1.3 percent, month-on-month, to 895,200 mt, while inventory turnover slightly improved from 3.5 months in August to 3.6 months in September.
Meanwhile, imports of flat steel products in September rose 41 percent, month-on-month, but declined 27.4 percent, year-on-year, to 62,900 mt.
As for October, Inda expects both sales and purchases of flat steel to decline 2 percent.
