Brazil’s federal police said on Tuesday it is investigating local pipe producer Tenaris Confab and steel tube producer Apolo Tubulars as part of the 30th phase of the “Lava Jato” or “Car Wash” corruption investigation.
Both Confab, a Tenaris owned pipe producer, and Apolo Tubulars are said to have paid BRL 40 million in bribes, so they could provide tubes for state-run oil producer Petrobras.
As a result of the corruption investigation, Brazil’s federal police arrested several Apolo Tubulars and Confab executives and compelled them to testify in the case, including: Carlos Eduardo de Sa Baptista and Paulo Cesar Peixoto de Castro from Apolo Tubulars; and Benjamin Sodre Neto and Nicolau Marcelo Bernardo from Confab.
