Wire rod exports from Brazil reached 6,400 mt in August, against 27,900 mt in July, according to customs data.

The exports in August were from ArcelorMittal (5,200 mt at $814/mt), Gerdau (1,000 mt at $688/mt) and Simec (200 mt at 985$/mt), FOB conditions.

The destinations were the US (2,600 mt at $917/mt), South American countries (2,800 mt at $727/mt), and the Dominican Republic (1,000 mt mt at $688/mt), FOB conditions.

Meanwhile, Brazil imported 28,200 mt of wire rod in August, against 20,100 mt in July.

The imports were from China (25,800 mt at $637/mt), Russia (1,200 mt at $591/mt), Egypt (900 mt at $620/mt), and the EU (300 mt at $1,145/mt), also FOB conditions.

High domestic prices and low availability of material for exports are the main reasons behind lower exports and increased imports.
