According to the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr), Brazilian crude steel production in September this year amounted to 2.58 million metric tons, with a 3.1 percent increase year on year. In the same month, Brazilian rolled steel output increased by 6.5 percent to 1.77 million metric tons compared to the same month of 2015.
Meanwhile, Brazilian steelmakers produced 22.92 million metric tons of crude steel in the first nine months of this year, down 9.3 percent year on year. Brazil's rolled steel product output totaled 15.78 million mt in the given period, down 9.3 percent year on year.
Brazilian domestic steel sales decreased by 1.3 percent year on year in September to 1.47 million metric tons, while domestic sales in the first nine months of this year totaled 12.56 million metric tons, decreasing by 11.7 percent year on year.
Brazil's exports of steel products in September amounted to 1.34 million metric tons, falling by 13.1 percent, with a value of $620 million, down 8.9 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Steel product exports in the January-September period of this year totaled 10.06 million mt, worth $4.12 billion, with an increase of 0.2 percent in volume and a fall of 20 percent in value compared to the same period of last year.
Meanwhile, the country's steel import volume in September this year amounted to 205,900 metric tons, decreasing 8.2 percent, with a value of $158.3 million, down 15.7 percent, both year on year. Brazil’s total steel imports in the first nine months of this year came to 1.16 million metric tons, representing a 57.8 percent decrease in volume from the first nine months of the previous year, while the value of these imports in the given period totaled $1.17 billion, falling by 55.1 percent year on year.
