Brazil's national statistics agency (IBGE) has announced that in May this year industrial production in the country remained stable compared to April, but was down 7.8 percent from May last year. In April, industrial output in Brazil had increased by 0.2 percent month on month.
In the January-May period of this year, industrial production in Brazil was down by 9.8 percent on year-on-year basis.
According to the announcement, in the fifth month of this year the production of intermediate goods manufacturers in Brazil decreased by 0.7 percent and output of capital goods rose by 1.5 percent, output of consumer goods grew by 0.1 percent, production of durable consumer goods moved up by 5.6 percent and output of semi-durable and non-durable consumer goods decreased by 1.4 percent, all compared to the previous month.
In May of the current year, Brazil's metal products output decreased by 12.1 percent, machine and equipment output declined by 7.1 percent and output of motor vehicles and trailers moved down by 15.8 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the January-May period of this year, Brazil's metal products output decreased by 15.6 percent, machine and equipment output declined by 18.3 percent and output of motor vehicles and trailers diminished by 24.2 percent, all compared to the same period of 2015.
