Canada-based steel producer Algoma Steel has completed the modernization works at its plate mill in Sault Ste. Marie after five years and plenty of delays, according to media reports.

The modernization works worth $135 million has increased the company’s shipped plate capacity to 650,000 mt from 450,000 mt. In addition, the recent upgrades will allow Algoma to expand its product portfolio to include wider plate products, to better control shape and surface quality and to improve logistics. The modernization project, which was carried out by Italy-based plantmaker Danieli, was initially scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2021, as SteelOrbis previously reported.
