The Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) has stated that it applauds the use by the Canadian government and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) of trade measures such as retroactive duty assessments to ensure fair conditions for the country’s steel industry. In March this year, the CSPA called for swift action to protect the country’s competitiveness and safeguard jobs in the face of rising offshore imports, as SteelOrbis previously reported.
“These recently concluded reinvestigations on corrosion-resistant steel and rebar, the $6.1 million retroactive duty assessment in line pipe, and the finding of a particular market situation in Turkey demonstrate that Canada continues to crack down on unfair trade,” Catherine Cobden, president and CEO of the CSPA, said.
According to the conclusion of the re-investigation to update the normal values and export prices of certain rebar imported from Turkey, the CBSA found that a particular market situation exists with respect to the rebar market in Turkey, which does not permit a proper comparison with the sales of the goods to the importer in Canada.
