China’s CPI declines 1.4 percent in May

In May, China's overall consumer price index (CPI) slipped by 1.4 percent year on year, declining by 0.3 percent from the April level. Meanwhile, the core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, dropped 1.3 percent year on year.

China's producer price index (PPI) for industrial products in the month of May decreased 7.2 percent from a year earlier. Purchase prices for raw materials, fuel and power dropped by 10.4 percent. In the January-May period, China's producer price index (PPI) fell 5.5 percent year on year, with purchase prices for raw materials, fuel and power down by 8.2 percent year on year.
