China’s electric power output up 3.6 percent in June

According to the latest data, during the last ten days of June China's electric power output increased by seven percent, up 3.6 percent compared with the same period of last year. This marks the first rise in monthly electric power output figures since October 2008. Regardless, China's total electric power output during the January-June period this year decreased by 2.02 percent year on year.

It is believed that demand for electricity in China will continue to climb up at a rate expected to be around 2.7 percent, especially as the outputs of steel and electrolytic aluminum in the country are increasing and as the domestic cement industry is recovering. As one of the important indicators of economic growth, the increase in China's electric power output can serve as a strong evidence pointing to the growth of China's GDP and may help eliminate doubts of economists at home and abroad on the issue.
