China’s energy consumption per metric ton of steel up 1.66 percent in February 2026

In February this year, China’s comprehensive energy consumption per metric ton of steel produced rose by 1.66 percent year on year, while total energy consumption of large and medium-sized steel enterprises in China - all CISA members - decreased by 2.91 percent year on year, according to the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA).

Meanwhile, in February total waste gas emissions from CISA member enterprises decreased by 12.15 percent year on year. Specifically, emissions of sulfur dioxide, particulate matter and nitrogen oxides in waste gas fell by 16.85 percent, 11.29 percent and 16.33 percent year on year, respectively.
