China’s foreign trade value down 8.6 percent in January-May

In May this year, China’s total foreign trade value amounted to $312.148 billion, indicating a month-on-month increase of 4.5 percent and a year-on-year decrease of 2.6 percent, as announced by the Chinese customs authorities on June 8. In the given month, the total value of China’s exports amounted to $181.064 billion, up 5.6 percent month on month and decreasing by 4.1 percent year on year, while Chinese imports totaled $131.084 billion in value, up 3.1 percent month on month and declining by 0.4 percent year on year, resulting in a trade surplus of $49.98 billion.

In the January-May period of the current year, China’s total foreign trade value amounted to $1.410127 trillion, down 8.6 percent year on year, while the total value of China’s exports and imports amounted to $813.812 billion and $596.314 billion, down 7.3 percent and declining by 10.3 percent year on year, respectively, resulting in a trade surplus of $217.498 billion in the given period.
