China’s shipbuilding output increases by 4.2 percent in H1

In the January-June period of this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 19.66 million dead weight tons (dwt), up 4.2 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 12.06 million dwt, decreasing by 46.9 percent year on year. As of the end of June, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 81.72 million dwt, down 10.3 percent year on year.

In the January-June period of the year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China accounted for 92.9 percent of total output, new ship orders for export accounted for 91.9 percent of total new ship orders, while as of the end of June ship orders for export represented 90.8 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
