China's Ministry of Environmental Protection has recently conducted comprehensive research into and inspection of 50 registered steel enterprises in the city of Baotou, located in the autonomous Chinese region of Inner Mongolia.
The results of the inspection show that of the 50 registered steel enterprises in Baotou, 28 of the enterprises are furnace-based steelmakers, of which two are currently under construction; 10 of the enterprises in question are unlikely to resume production as their equipment and machinery has already been dismantled; seven of the enterprises operate in the machinery sector; and the remaining five have been renamed or merged with other companies. The inspection has enabled the Chinese authorities to get a clear idea of the situation regarding steel enterprises in Baotou, and this is expected to facilitate the future environmental supervision of these enterprises.
