US-based rebar producer Commercial Metals Company (CMC) plans to build a new rebar plant in Akron to expand its rebar operations in Ohio, according to media reports. The plant, which will be the company’s second facility in Ohio, will be located at the former site of Akron Rebar Co., which ceased operations in 2023.

The plant will receive up to $5 million in loans and $1 million in grants from the JobsOhio Revitalization Program. Once renovations are complete, CMC plans to hire up to 50 new employees within five years.
