Steel output at Brazil’s Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) hasn’t been affected by a fire that left four people wounded late on Friday at the company’s Presidente Vargas mill located in the city of Volta Redonda, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, a spokesperson told SteelOrbis.
“Steel output wasn’t affected,” a spokesperson at CSN said over the phone. According to the company’s representative, the fire broke out in one of the company’s galvanizing warehouses, where there are two galvanizing lines.
“Out of these two galvanizing lines, one was hit, but CSN will probably perform maintenance works at it. A third galvanizing line, which was close the other two, wasn’t affected, so output didn’t stop in that third galvanizing line,” he said.
The affected line will resume operations on Monday, the CSN representative said.
“Steel output continues as usual. We now have two galvanizing lines, instead of three. There weren’t major impacts [on steel production] because one of the lines needs maintenance,” he said.
The four victims were taken to a near hospital, and one is said to be heavily injured.
