Juan Antonio Reboulen, the Director of International Relations and International Trade of Mexican long steel producer Deacero criticized this week the US' decision to impose anti-dumping duties on steel rail tie wire imports from Mexico.
The US International Trade Commission imposed a levy of 9.99 percent on imports of these products, Reboulen said that the measure will hurt regional production chains and end-use consumers.
"This measure is strong evidence of protectionism that some sectors of American industry are showing," he said.
Although he assured that the International Trade Commission ruling will be respected, he insisted that Mexico and the US develop other mechanisms of dialogue and negotiation in respect to trade cases.
"NAFTA itself points out the possibility of reaching agreements through consultation as a means to avoid the imposition of quotas limiting free trade," he added.
