Despite decline in output, Mexican auto sales rise in February

Despite a year-on-year decline in auto output in February, Mexican auto sales in the same period rose 13.5 percent, year-on-year, the nation’s automotive industry association, AMIA, said.

According to AMIA, auto output in February totaled 271,278 units, 4.1 percent down, year-on-year, while domestic sales in the same month rose 13.5 percent, year-on-year, to 110,770 units.

Exports of autos in the second month of the year diminished 1.2 percent, year-on-year, to 219,670 units.

As for the accumulated period of January to February, Mexican auto production fell 1.9 percent, year-on-year, to 538,776 units. On the other hand, both exports and domestic sales in the same period rose 1.3 and 14.5 percent, respectively, to 432,914 and 230,463 units.
