Egypt-based long steel producer Elmarakby Steel will build its first meltshop to produce steel billets from scrap, the company's deputy CEO Hassan Elmarakby informed SteelOrbis.
The meltshop with an annual capacity of 350,000 mt will feed the company's existing rolling mill of 240,000 mt per year capacity and the rest will be sold to the domestic market or overseas. The meltshop to be located in Giza, like the rolling mill, is expected to be operational by the end of 2013. Mr. Elmarakby also stated that the company plans to build a second rolling mill with an annual production capacity of 350,000 mt following the commissioning of the meltshop.
Elmarakby Steel has signed a contract with the Zurich-based plantmaker SMS Concast for the supply of the meltshop in question.
