According to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in June this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) decreased 1.7 percent as compared to May and was down by 5,8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. In May, production increased by 1.2 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in June fell 0.5 percent month on month and was down by 2.8 percent compared to June 2011. In May, production decreased 0.2 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-27 in June declined by 1.4 percent month on month and was down 5.6 percent compared to June 2011, while civil engineering dropped by 2.2 percent from May and was down by 9.3 percent as compared to the same month of 2011.
As compared to May, construction output in June increased in Slovenia by 6.8 percent, in Spain by 1.3 percent, in Sweden by 1.1 percent and France by 0.7 percent, while a decrease of ten percent was registered in Romania, a decrease of 4.7 percent was recorded in the UK, 2.4 percent decline was seen in Poland and a decrease of two percent was registered in Germany.
