According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in September this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) decreased 1.8 percent as compared to August and was down by 5.8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. In August, production had increased by 0.2 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in September fell 1.4 percent month on month and was down by 2.6 percent compared to September 2011. In August, production had increased 0.6 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-27 in September declined by 2.5 percent month on month and was down 6.5 percent compared to September 2011, while civil engineering increased by 0.1 percent from August and was down by 4.2 percent as compared to the same month of 2011.
As compared to August, construction output in September increased in Slovenia by 17.1 percent, in Germany by 2.7 percent, and in Sweden by 1.0 percent, while a decrease of 13.4 percent was registered in Portugal, a decrease of eight percent was recorded in Italy, a decrease of four percent was registered in Romania and a fall of three percent was registered in the United Kingdom
