According to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in May this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) increased 1.6 percent as compared to April and was down by 6,9 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. In April, production dropped by 6.9 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in May increased 0.1 percent month on month and was down by 8.4 percent compared to May 2011. In April, production decreased 3.7 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-27 in May increased by 1.8 percent month on month and was down 6.3 percent compared to May 2011, while civil engineering rose by 0.7 percent from April and was down by 10.9 percent as compared to the same month of 2011.
As compared to April, construction output in May increased in the UK by 6.3 percent, in Romania by 5.0 percent and in Portugal by 3.6 percent, while a decrease of 17.5 percent was registered in Slovenia, a decrease of 4.1 percent was recorded in Hungary and a 3.3 percent decline was seen in Spain. In May this year the construction output remained stable in the Czech Republic.
