EU annual inflation moves up to 3.2 percent

Annual inflation in the European Union was 3.2 percent in April this year, up from a revised 3.1 percent in March, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In April 2010, the annual inflation rate was registered as 2.1 percent. Meanwhile, monthly inflation was 0.5 percent in April this year.

In April, the lowest annual inflation rates were observed in Ireland with 1.5 percent, in the Czech Republic with 1.6 percent and in Sweden with 1.8 percent, while the highest were seen in Romania with 8.4 percent, in Estonia with 5.4 percent, and in Lithuania and Hungary both with 4.4 percent.
 
The lowest 12-month averages up to the end of April were registered in Ireland -0.4 percent, in Latvia at 1.3 percent and in the Netherlands at 1.4 percent, while the highest were recorded in Romania at 7.2 percent, in Greece at five percent and in Estonia at 4.3 percent.
