EU crude steel output falls 44 percent in Jan-Apr

According to the data provided by European Confederation of Iron and Steel Industries (EUROFER), in April 2009 crude steel production of the 27 member states of the European Union amounted 9.571 million metric tons, decreasing by 6.57 percent compared to March 2009, and by 48.61 percent year on year.

In the January-April period of the current year, total crude steel production of European Union members amounted to 40.348 million metric tons, down 44.16 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In April Germany's crude steel production decreased by 53.12 percent to 1.880 million metric tons, French crude steel production declined by 50.51 percent to 821,000 metric tons, Italy's output fell by 49.04 percent to 1.492 million metric tons, Spain's crude steel production decreased by 38.15 percent to1.190 million metric tons while the United Kingdom produced 785,000 metric tons of crude steel, down 43.69 percent, all compared to April 2008.
