EU new car registrations up 8.1 percent in January-August

In August this year, new car registrations totaled 819,126 units in the European Union (EU), with an increase of 10 percent year on year, according to the latest figures issued by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). 

In August, Italy (+20.1 percent), Spain (+14.6 percent), Germany (+8.3 percent), France (+6.7 percent) and the UK (+3.3 percent) were the major EU markets which recorded increases in new car registrations on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, in the January-August period new passenger car registrations in the EU increased to 9,787,760 units, up 8.1 percent year on year. In the first eight months of the current year, all major markets posted growth, contributing to the overall upturn of the European market. In this period, Italy saw an increase of 17.4 percent and Spain saw an increase of 11.3 percent, while new passenger car registrations in France rose by 6.1 percent, with registrations in Germany rising by 5.7 percent and with registrations in the UK up 2.8 percent, all year-on-year basis.
