Annual inflation in the euro area was 1.5 percent in September this year, stable compared to August, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In September last year, the annual inflation rate was 0.4 percent.
Meanwhile, in the European Union (EU-28) annual inflation was 1.8 percent in September, up from 1.7 percent in August. In September 2016, the annual inflation rate in the EU-28 was 0.4 percent.
The lowest inflation rates in September this year were observed in Cyprus (0.1%), Ireland (0.2%) and Finland (0.8%), whereas the highest annual rates were recorded in Lithuania (4.6%), Estonia (3.9%) and Latvia (3.0%). Compared with August, annual inflation rose in 11 member states, remained stable in seven states and fell in nine.
