Euro area annual inflation up to 0.7 percent in April

Annual inflation in the euro area was 0.7 percent in April this year, up from 0.5 percent in March, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In April 2013, the annual inflation rate was 1.2 percent. Meanwhile, monthly inflation in the euro area was 0.2 percent in April this year.

Meanwhile, in the European Union (EU-28) annual inflation was 0.8 percent in April, up from 0.6 percent in March. In April 2013, the annual inflation rate in the EU-28 was 1.4 percent, while the monthly inflation rate in the EU-28 was 0.1 percent in April of the current year.

In April this year, annual inflation in the EU-28 fell in seven states, remained stable in four and increased in 16 states as compared with March. The lowest annual inflation rates were observed in Greece (-1.6%), Bulgaria (-1.3%), Cyprus (-0.4%), Hungary and Slovakia (both -0.2%), Croatia and Portugal (both -0.1%), while the highest were observed in Austria and Romania (both 1.6%), Finland (1.3%) and Germany (1.1%).

The lowest 12-month averages up to the end of April this year were registered in Greece (-1.2%), the Czech Republic (-0.8%) and Cyprus (-0.4%), while the highest were seen in Estonia (2.3%), Romania (2.1%) and Finland (1.9%).
