Euro area construction output down 1.8 percent in Sept from Aug

According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in September this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) decreased by 0.9 percent as compared to August and by 0.4 percent compared to the same month of 2013. In August, production had increased by 0.7 percent compared to the previous month.

In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in September of the current year decreased by 1.8 percent month on month, while decreasing 1.7 percent compared to September 2013. In August, production had remained stable as compared to July, according to the newly revised data.

Building construction in the EU-28 in September decreased by 0.8 percent month on month and by 1.9 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region fell 1.3 percent from August but was up 0.3 percent year on year.

As compared to August, construction output in September increased in Romania by 7.9 percent, in the Czech Republic by 2.7 percent and Bulgaria by 2.4 percent, while a decrease of 8.6 percent was registered in Slovenia, a decline of 5.4 percent was recorded in Italy, a fall of 3.2 percent was seen in Sweden and a decline of 2.3 percent was registered in France.

As compared to September 2013, construction output in September of the current year increased in Spain by 9.1 percent, in the Czech Republic by 8.2 percent, in Hungary by 7.3 percent, in Slovenia by 6.2 percent and in Bulgaria by 5.8 percent, while a decrease of 10.6 percent was registered in Italy, a decline of 5.2 percent was seen in Portugal, a drop of 3.4 percent was registered in France, a decrease of 3.1 percent was seen in the Netherlands and a decline of 1.5 percent was witnessed in Germany.
