According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union, in December last year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) declined by two percent compared to November and by 0.4 percent compared to the same month of 2021. In November last year, production in the construction sector had moved up by 0.1 percent month on month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the given month fell by 1.3 percent compared to the same month of 2021 and by 2.5 percent compared to the previous month. In November last year, production had decreased by 0.1 percent month on month.
Building construction in the EU-27 in December moved down by two percent month on month and by 0.9 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region declined by 2.4 percent from November and rose by 0.6 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction declined by 2.3 percent month on month and by 1.3 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region fell by four percent month on month and by 1.5 percent year on year.
As compared to December 2021, construction output in December last year increased by 74.5 percent in Slovenia, by 18.4 percent in Romania, and by 4.9 percent in the Netherlands, while it decreased by 8.2 percent in Germany, by 6.3 percent in Spain, and by six percent in Austria.
As compared to November, construction output in December last year increased by 10.6 percent in Slovenia, by 9.5 percent in Slovakia, and by 4.3 percent in Sweden, while it decreased by eight percent in Germany, by 7.6 percent in Austria, and by 3.8 percent in Poland.
