According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in July this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) increased by 1.1 percent compared to June and rose by one percent compared to the same month of 2015. In June, production was stable compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in July increased by 1.8 percent month on month and moved up by 3.1 percent year on year. In June, production had risen by 0.3 percent compared to May, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in July increased by 1.3 percent month on month and was up 1.8 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 0.9 percent from June and was down by 2.7 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction increased by 2.2 percent month on month and was up 3.2 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region grew by 0.4 percent month on month and by 2.9 percent year on year.
As compared to July 2015, construction output in July this year increased by 12 percent in Spain, by 10 percent in Sweden and by 3.3 percent in France, while a decrease of 23.3 percent was registered in Slovakia, a decline of 17.6 percent was seen in Hungary and a fall of 15.1 percent was recorded in Poland.
As compared to June, construction output in July this year increased by 4.8 percent in France, by 2.0 percent in Slovenia, by 1.9 percent in Spain and by 1.8 percent in Germany, while construction output decreased by 11 percent in Slovakia, by 3.2 percent in Hungary and by 1.4 percent in Bulgaria.
